DEAR SUN SPOTS: The time for opening Turner’s century box is approaching. The Century Box Jubilee Committee is planning a weeklong celebration, starting with opening ceremonies Sunday, Nov. 12. The event will be held at Leavitt Area High School from 4 to 6 p.m. The century box from 1923 and a 50-year box from 1973 will be opened. They are filled with messages, letters, prophecies, children’s essays, family stories, photographs and other memorabilia. During the week of Nov. 12-19, the contents of both boxes will be displayed at the Turner History Museum, fourth floor, Leavitt Institute Building. This showing will be open to the public from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14; noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18. A closing ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the high school.
The Jubilee Committee is collecting memorabilia for a third century box to be opened in 100 years. These items should pertain to life in Turner in 2023. Be part of Turner’s future history by dropping off your ideas for the 2023 box at the Turner Town Office, Turner Public Library or Turner History Museum, and pick up your free 100th decal. — No name, Turner
DEAR SUN SPOTS: My son is a disabled veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder and a traumatic brain injury. He also has several physical problems, with his back being the worst. We have taken him to the ER several times and I take him to Togus once or twice a year for a procedure that helps sometimes. He has not been able to do anything for the past six weeks. I bought a ton of wood pellets and put the bags in front of his garage. I planned to put them in storage the next day. Later that day, my son called me and said two neighbors put the bags away for me. I want to say thank you very much for helping us. My son is blessed to have such wonderful neighbors. — No name, no town

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a Citation Theatre organ that I would like to give away to an organization, a church or someone. It is in excellent condition. It has a cassette player. I have three volumes of how to play the organ with three cassettes in each volume that goes with this organ. I can be reached at 207-783-3372. You must provide your own transportation if interested. — Mary, Auburn
