100 Years Ago: 1923
Gov. Baxter today issued a statement endorsing Temperance Sunday, November 4,1923.
It would be difficult for us to imagine what the State of Maine would be today had it not been for prohibition and certainly every citizen who had the welfare of the state at heart must admit that the state is a cleaner, better and more wholesome place in which to live than it would be if liquor was sold today as it was before the passage of our temperance laws.
50 Years Ago: 1973
Fun and Fellowship are in store for all who come to the All Church Party at the High Street Congregational Church at 6:30 pm Wednesday October 30. The Rev. and Mrs.Garvey MacLean and family are in charge of the program and Mrs. Thomas Ray is in charge of refreshments and cleanup.
Invited guests include neighborhood families, members of the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Boy Scouts of troop 137 and the Neighborhood Mothers Club which meets at the church under the auspices of the YWCA.
Costumes are optional.
25 Years Ago: 1998
The grand opening of the Community Youth Center will be held at 5 PM Saturday Oct 31 at the old Depot building at Depot Square, next to the post office. The youth group is sponsored by Community Can, a nonprofit group for area youth.
