100 Years Ago: 1923
Lewiston policemen directing traffic at Lisbon and Main Streets will find standing less wearisome. A large triangular space at the juncture of the two streets has been paved with the not ordinary granite blocks, but with wooden blocks and covered with a black composition. It is easier to stand on wood than stone say the traffic officers as well as it is less cold in winter and less warm in the summer.
50 Years Ago: 1973
(Sun Journal photo) Officials of the Maine Department of Transportation opened the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge today after inspecting the new river crossing to make sure everything is in order. At left is some of the traffic this morning utilizing both lanes at once for the first time. Mayor John C. Orestis of Lewiston moves a barricade with the help of Ralph Stevens, DOT engineer.
25 Years Ago: 1998
