BERLIN, N.H. — On Friday, September 15, the AVH Auxiliary held its 34th Golf Tournament at the Androscoggin Valley Country Club in Gorham. 136 golfers teed off in the four-person, best ball scramble on a beautiful, sunny day. This year, the Golf Tournament Committee chose to raise funds for the LUCAS 3 Device, Verathon BladderScan, and Natus ALGO 7i.

In addition to an 18-hole round of golf, each golfer received a Yeti Can Cooler, BBQ on the course, and participation in the Hole-In-One, Closest to the Pin Shootout, Putting, Longest Drive, and Closest to the Pin Contests. The winning foursome was Steve Flynn, Luc Poulin, Dave Poulin, and Drew McKenna. In second place were Andy Nichols, Ian Boyao, Paul Lachapelle, and Tim Ryan. In third place were Derrick Gagne, Eric Tremblay, Rollie Poirier and Chris Halle. Other winners in the Tournament were Ted Door for men’s closest to the pin on hole #3, and Lynn Thornton won the longest drive for women on hole #11. All received American Express gift cards. The Putting Contest final qualifier was Derrick Gagne who missed the 60-foot putt. Nice try! Derrick won Titleist Golf Balls and an American Express gift card.

To help raise additional funds, a raffle was held. Patio Furniture was won by John Vashaw, Red Sox Tickets were won by Mike Gilcoine; Tickets to New England Patriots were won by Emily Morris; Tailgate Package was won by Dr. Kardell; a 3 credit course was won by John Morris and was donated back and won by Oscar Patry; and One Round of Golf for Two Players at the Omni Mount Washington Resort was won by Tyson Thornton. The lucky winner of the 50/50 Raffle was Dr. Flynn who won $820!

Berlin City Auto Group generously sponsored the Hole-in-One Contest which included a top prize of a $25,000 credit towards the purchase of a vehicle. No golfer got a hole-in-one. The NuCar Pre-Owned Superstore generously sponsored a $100,000 Closest-to-the-Pin Shootout Contest. The Golf Tournament Committee was delighted to dedicate this year’s Tournament to Linda Morris AVH Auxiliary Golf Tournament Chairperson, AVH Auxiliary President/Liaison, and Volunteer Services Coordinator. For more than two decades, Linda made a meaningful difference in the culture, work environment, and Volunteer Services program of our hospital.

Whether serving as Chairperson of the AVH Employee Engagement Committee, a member of our Patient and Family Advisory Council, or as the lead for this fun golf event. Linda’s passion for bettering the health and well-being of our communities was noteworthy. Having served with great dignity, Linda retired from AVH at the end of September.
