AARP Maine plans to host one of three free workshops in the Lewiston/Auburn area designed to provide information about how to better understand one’s electric bill and help Mainers become advocates for their own communities.
The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.
The fight to keep utility rates fair is especially important in Maine, the state with the country’s oldest population. Maine’s electricity rates are higher than the national average, and they’re going up even faster than the inflation rate, according to a news release from AARP Maine.
Older Maine residents shouldn’t have to choose between paying for groceries or paying to keep the lights and heat on. That’s why AARP Maine is fighting for reasonable utility rates, and it would like Mainers to get involved.
The other two workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at University of Southern Maine University Events Room, seventh floor of the Glickman Family Library at 314 Forest Ave. in Portland; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Bangor Public Library, 145 Harlow St.
Registration is required.
