LEWISTON — The Points North Institute is partnering with Recovery Connections of Maine to bring an free evening of film, music, and poetry to the Lewiston-Auburn community.
The event is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in support of efforts to provide recovery resources and combat the stigma associated with substance use. The event will begin with a spaghetti dinner at the Franco Center’s Heritage Hall at 46 Cedar St.
The evening will feature refreshments prepared by residents at a recovery facility in Lewiston, a performance by local musician Myles Bullen, and a screening of a short documentary from Points North Institute that follows Jeremy Hiltz and his work with Recovery Connections of Maine, an addiction treatment center in Lewiston.
A Q&A will follow the film. Participants in the film and other community stakeholders will share a conversation following the screening about their own recovery experiences, according to a news release from the institute, based in Rockport.
“As an arts organization, one of the beliefs that drives our work at Points North is that storytelling is key to building stronger, healthier communities,” said Sean Flynn, program director and co-founder of Points North. “Particularly in the tragic aftermath of the recent mass shooting in Lewiston, we are grateful to help provide an environment for members of the Lewiston-Auburn community to gather, share their stories, and identify resources for support. We’re honored to partner again with Gordon Smith and the Governor’s Office to organize the Recovery in Maine series. At each event, we see the power of stories to break down isolation and stigma, connect people with resources, and build a dialogue that is centered on the experiences, perspectives and leadership of people in recovery — and people seeking recovery.”
Points North is grateful to the local arts and recovery partners who have made these events possible, including the Franco Center and Recovery Connections of Maine. The Recovery in Maine screening series is underwritten by Camden National Bank.
Recovery coaches will be available, and well as Narcan training and distribution.
