100 Years Ago: 1923

James H. Carroll of Lewiston, State Deputy of the Knights of Columbus, will make an official visit to the Bath Council K of C Thursday night. Next week he will go to Rumford. His itinerary includes visits to each of the 40 councils in Maine this winter.

50 Years Ago: 1973

Gerald R. Ford, Vice President designate, today offered the reputation for truthfulness, fairness and friendliness he has acquired over 25 years in congress “for the good of all Americas.”

Appearing before the House Judiciary Committee, which is to be examining his qualifications to become vice president, Ford said if confirmed he would try to smooth relations between congress and the White House and between Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill.

25 Years Ago: 1998

The once monthly contemporary worship service will be held at 6 pm Saturday at the United Church of Auburn. The public is invited. The sermon theme will be “So, Just Who Are You?” presented by Rev. Richard Cullen.
