To the Editor:
Unfortunately, my wife and I were not surprised that book bans had finally reached Bethel. It was inevitable – ignorance is a virus that never disappears and from time to time in history inflames society.
The Index Librorum Prohibitorum included works by many luminaries across many disciplines. Like the “inquisitors” before them, the so-called “Moms For Liberty” are misguided individuals huddling around their church steeples trying to impose their personal beliefs on the larger community.
It is important that their ignorance not be allowed to spread in our community. They are entitled to their views, but not to debilitate our educational system, on which the future of our democracy depends.
Thank you for sharing the news and working to push back against ignorance in our town.
