To the Editor:
On behalf of the Foster Carroll American Legion Post #72 and VFW Post 9787, we would like to thank the many presenters, volunteers, and community members who attended the 2023 Veterans Day Ceremony and outreach program on Friday, November 10. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and many people received valuable information regarding services available to veterans and their families.
Presenters included Karen Staples of Senator Susan Collin’s office, Kim Rohn of Congressman Jared Golden’s office, Christopher Smith of Veterans Benefits Administration, Ryan Lorrain of Maine Veterans Services, Michael Tillery of Martins Point, Brad Peck of Maine Veterans Home, Matt Monk of Honor Flight Maine, and Beth Smith of Quilts of Valor. Ben Tucker also provided a video message from Senator King. Thank you to Rick Little for running the photo array of area veterans from their time in service.
Special guests from Mission Working Dogs Kai Sullivan & Tank, Katrina White & Oliver, and Denise Thorn & Tuck… the dogs were a hit! Free winter coats for veterans were available through Rich Hatch of VFW Post 9787, donated by Ocean State Job Lot. Refreshments were donated by Aroma Joe’s, Katherine’s Bakery, Daddy-O’s, Hannaford, and Walmart. Joshua Little and Boy Scout Troop 130 were invaluable with setting up and cleaning up! Many more volunteers of the Legion and VFW Auxiliary assisted with tables and welcomed guests.
Thank you to all!
