BREWER — Jordin Williams played a role in the first four goals of the game, helping the Penobscot Pioneers seize control early in their 7-2 season-opening girls hockey victory over St. Dominic Academy on Saturday at Penobscot Ice Arena.
Williams finished with a goal and four assists, Meghan Delahanty and Ella Davis both scored twice and Isabelle Brideau had three assists.
Georgie Davidson scored both of the Saints’ goals in the third period. St. Dom’s goalie Alana Wheeler made 52 saves.
Williams set up the opening goal, scored by Delahanty, then she netted the second goal. Williams and Brideau assisted on Anna Malloy’s tally to give Penobscot a 3-0 lead in the first.
Williams and Kaylin Morrison set up Davis’ first goal in the second period, then Delahanty added her second goal later in the frame.
Davis and Delaney Carr finished off the Pioneers’ scoring in the final period. Brideau set up Davis’ goal and Williams recorded her fourth helper on Carr’s goal. Delahanty also notched an assist on the final goal.
Pioneers goalie Abbie Derosier stopped 21 shots.
Lauren Hanlon, Lily Fortin, Emily Andrews and Abby Titus each tallied an assist for St. Dom’s.
YARMOUTH/FREEPORT 8, LEWISTON/OAK HILL 3: Rosie Panenka, Isabel Peters and Sophia Smith all scored twice as Yarmouth/Freeport opened its season with an 8-1 win over Lewiston/Oak Hill at Travis Roy Ice Arena in Yarmouth.
Celia Zinman and Phoebe Williamson added a goal apiece.
