AUBURN — Central Maine Health Ventures, a for-profit Central Maine Healthcare subsidiary, is attempting to acquire Spectrum Healthcare Partners’ 50% ownership in Central Maine Orthopaedics Ambulatory Surgical Center in Auburn, giving it full ownership.

Central Maine Health Ventures has been responsible for the day-to-day operations at the center for the past two years, according to a statement issued by the hospital system. After the transaction is completed, it will take over management of the center. All the physicians and team members are employed by Central Maine Medical Center.

Owning 100% of the center will allow patient medical health records to be integrated under one parent company, according to Central Maine Health Ventures’ statement. This ensures better communication among primary care doctors and other specialty providers across the CMHC system.

Central Maine Health Ventures does not anticipate any capital expenditures in the acquisition, according to the Certificate of Need.

Roughly four years ago, Spectrum gave Central Maine Health Ventures a 25% share in the center and another 25% share about a year after that, according to an April 13 Central Maine Health Ventures Letter of Intent.

The Ambulatory Surgery Center commonly performs arthroscopic hand, ankle, foot, knee, shoulder and hip surgery, according to its website. It also performs fracture surgeries, carpal tunnel releases, ACL reconstructions and rotator cuff repairs. It is one of the largest outpatient orthopaedic facilities in New England.

Spectrum did not respond to requests for comment Friday.
