DEAR SUN SPOTS: For the reader who asked for Portland parking help, I believe the Thames lot by the WEX building on Commercial Street is open for all day and overnight parking. — Steven, no town

ANSWER: I confirmed this by calling the city of Portland parking division and spoke with a helpful woman named Carol. She confirmed that people can park in the Thames lot (70 Thames St.) for up to 15 consecutive days by paying at the city of Portland kiosk in the lot or with the Passport parking app that can be downloaded on your cell phone.

She did want to make folks aware that a portion of that lot is owned by a private company so she cautioned that those who want to park there must do so in the city-owned section (unpaved area) only or they will receive a costly ticket.

Carol also assured me that there are a few spots available at the far end of the Ocean Gate lot as our reader previously mentioned.

She acknowledged that parking in Portland is challenging and kindly suggested that people use the Metro bus (#8), the Breez bus, and Uber/Lyfts whenever possible.
