We had numerous people tell us that the iconic water tower in the background of last week’s Mystery Photo was the biggest clue that helped them identify the lower part of the Civil War Monument in the center of Canton, along Route 108. In a random drawing from all the correct entries, Tim Barclay of Auburn was chosen as the winner of a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. He told us that it was easy for him to identify as he has been driving past it on his way to work for the past 40 years. In his email entry, he wrote, “This is the statue that was controversial during road construction. It originally pointed south to face the confederate states, but it was turned to face the road considered more busy, Route 108,” so the statue now faces east.
