Thank you for publishing the article concerning the life-saving actions of the University of Maine at Farmington student-athletes in the Fitness and Recreation Center parking lot (“UMF student-athletes recognized for saving a 77-year-old woman’s life in Farmington,” Dec. 8).
Their compassion, alertness, and knowledge certainly deserve commendation. The happy outcome for the injured older woman warms my heart.
As a community member who also uses the center, I can attest to the fact that the facility is a prime example of the special way that the college and the town are interconnected, and where different generations learn from and respect each other.
Yes, the benefit of improved health may be the obvious reason for going there. But faith in the finest of young adults and friendly companionship across all ages can’t be underestimated, as an additional reward.
