LEWISTON — Ben Dumais had a first-period hat trick as St. Dominic Academy rolled to an 11-0 win over Gardiner/Waterville/Winslow in a boys hockey game at Norway Savings Bank Arena on Saturday night.
Ridge Dionne had three assists, and Timothee Ouellette and Jaxson Booker had two for the Saints (4-0).
“All my goals were from good passes from Tim and Ridge,” Dumais said. “We were moving the puck pretty well, especially early on.”
Gardiner/Waterville/Winslow (0-3) was missing five varsity players because of injury, and they were also without head coach KC Johnson, who was on a business trip.
“We were trying to slow them down, we were trying to keep them on the outside and we were trying to trap them,” Tigers assistant coach Todd Dostie said. “But, we had a lot of young kids that who never played before and kids who never got in a varsity game before had to start. We were doing a lot of running around, but St. Dom’s handled it with class. They weren’t rubbing it in our face, and they did everything the right way.”
Dostie said the goal of the game was not to suffer any more injuries, and the Tigers came out of the game healthy.
Ouellette and Spencer Morgan added a goal each in the first and third periods.
Riley Daigle, Dionne and Ethan Pelletier each scored in the second period.
Tommy Casserly had the game’s opening goal in the first period and added an assist in the game.
“We have really two strong lines that have been playing really well, flying around,” St. Dom’s coach Dan D’Auteuil said. “We have some good team speed and they have been carrying us and allowed us to get our third and fourth lines in tonight.”
