AUBURN— One person was brought to an area hospital Saturday evening after a two-vehicle crash in which one car caught fire on the Maine Turnpike near the northbound Mile 76, according to state police.
Allisha Savage, 35, of South Portland was driving north on the interstate in a Subaru Impreza around 4:50 p.m. when she sideswiped a Chrysler Town and Country van and forced both vehicles off the road, said Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Savage and the van’s driver were able to exit their vehicles before the Subaru caught fire, Moss said. There were no passengers.
Savage was transported to the hospital with injuries not considered life threatening and the driver of the van was treated and cleared on scene, Moss said.
Police said speed and distracted driving are believed to be factors in the crash.
