LEWISTON — One man was stabbed and another arrested Saturday night after a fight at Cumberland Farms on Sabattus Street.

Emerico Palacio Androscoggin County Jail

More than a dozen people called 911 at about 8:30 p.m. to report a pair of men fighting in the parking lot of the store, police said. Other calls reported that one of the men, later identified as 39-year-old Todd Lyons, had been stabbed.

Police cordoned off the area while other officers fanned out searching for the suspect, who was said to have fled with several others in a vehicle. Minutes later, police spotted the vehicle a short distance away and made a traffic stop.

Emerico Palacio, 45, of Lewiston, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn where he was being held on $2,500 bail.

Lyons was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where he was treated for wounds described as serious but not life-threatening.

In a Facebook post, Lyons later said that he had stopped at Cumberland Farm’s for a soda where he was jumped and slashed with a box cutter by a man who tried to steal his truck. His photos show stab wounds at the back of his head, although Lyons reported he was cut in other areas of his body, as well.

Police were continuing to investigate the matter on Sunday. Early reports, according to a Lewiston police spokesman, were that Lyons and Palacio had exchanged words in the parking lot before the stabbing occurred.
