100 Years Ago: 1923
Henry Ford today declared he, “like a great many of the American people,” feels that the country is “safe with Coolidge,” and that he himself would never consider running against Mr. Coolidge on any ticket.
“I believe it is the wise and natural thing for the people to agree on the nomination and election of Mr. Coolidge,” Mr. Ford said. “I am satisfied that 90 per cent of the people feel perfectly safe with him. And if this is the feeling of the country, why change?”
50 Years Ago: 1973
(Journal photo) A member of the Lewiston Police Department for several years, “Smiley” Max Ashburn is an accomplished artist, very popular with youngsters along his beat and has artistic ability which shows his genuine love for the little ones. Yesterday at the Pediatrics Department of the Central Maine General Hospital, it was a BIG day for the kids, as “Smiley” dropped by, and added holiday cheer by sketching cartoons for the young patients. Getting a few pointers, is Michelle Burgos, two and a half, of Puerto Rico, visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronaldo Deschaine of Green St. Lewistown.
25 Years Ago: 1998
Emily Jean Proctor, a sophomore at Connecticut College in New London, was involved in the Connecticut College Dance Club’s show, Falling Through Ceilings,” in November.
Proctor choreographed and performed in “Nude Reflections” and performed in “An Spirid Titan,” “Under the Covers,” and “Blue White Field Storm.”
A 1997 graduate of Rangeley Lakes High School, Proctor is the daughter of Joan M. and James C. Proctor Jr, of Dodge Pond, Rangeley.
