Many don’t understand depression — hearing voices, paranoia, psychosis, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or the fringes of extreme trauma.
I do. And I know the agony and craziness that it entails. Thank goodness for me, the Veterans Administration was able to help. Apparently, the military faltered for the Lewiston shooter, Robert Card.
I am in no way condoning what happened in October. I am so in trauma myself; I went through a PTSD event because of this.
I can only imagine and sympathize with all the families involved. My heart goes out to them. I also give credit to the first responders and all they did. True heroes.
What people don’t understand is that Mr. Card was a victim also — the 19th victim.
He may have been in that trailer in physical, emotional and psychological trauma for two days before he took his life. The last to die. And die he did, by his own hand.
Was it solely his fault? No. The failure of our gun system, the failure of people recognizing that “something is wrong,” and the failure of our mental health arena in this state.
We need more help. I hope people can assist in changing things; I implore them. Those with mental disorders are people too, and their lives matter.
