100 Years Ago: 1923
John S. Seavey of Davis St, Lewiston, who was elected president of the Lewiston-Auburn Kiwanis Club Wednesday is also president of the Lewiston-Auburn Bates Club, and is chairman of the ball committee of the Lewiston-Auburn Shrine Club.
Mr. Seavey graduated from Bates College in 1915. He came from Plymouth, N.H. For two years he was with the Goodrich Rubber Co. in Chicago and when coming back to Maine he purchased a grocery from E.A. Bickford on Union Street in Auburn.
He is one of the most popular young men in Lewiston and is regarded as one of the few “livewires” in the two cities.
50 Years Ago: 1973
Mrs. Lois A. Camire of Auburn is housing chair for Maine’s Junior Miss Pageant to be held here the third week of January.
As such, her responsibility is to locate temporary homes in the twin cities and nearby area to house contestants who will arrive on January 15 and will stay at the host homes through the following Sunday.
Mrs. Camire would like to place two girls in each home, but if a host family has room for only one, those accommodations too will be appreciated, she reports.
Thirty-two girls comprise the group of contestants and hostesses interested may contact Mrs. Camire at her studio.
25 Years Ago: 1998
The continuing exhibits of portraits and quotes of black history in Maine used in making the documentary film, “Anchor of the Soul” and “Cartographic Creation of New England,” featuring maps dating from 1493-1956, will be featured both continuously, at USM Portland Campus Center.
