Secretary of State Shenna Bellows issued a ruling Thursday night barring former President Donald Trump from appearing on Maine’s March 5, 2024, presidential primary ballot. In an interview Friday, she said the evidence presented at a hearing earlier this month made it clear that the events of Jan. 6, 2021 were an insurrection that occurred “at the behest of, and with the knowledge and support of” Donald Trump.
Republicans said the decision to remove the former president from the Maine primary ballot is a partisan political decision made in an effort to take away voter rights.
