100 Years Ago: 1923

Two mysterious strangers were so alarmed by the sight of Policeman Gendron patrolling his beat on Lincoln Street, Lewiston, late Saturday evening that they raced down the street into Hines Alley and there they abandoned two one gallon cans of alcohol, which officer Gendron seized.

Several local men of questionable character were picked up during the night and brought to the station in an attempt to locate the owner of the booze, but no one claimed it and the subjects were released.

50 Years Ago: 1973

(Journal photo) One of the many New Year’s Eve parties will be held tonight in the auditorium at the St. Joseph’s School under the auspices of the school’s PTA. Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Boilard are photographed against part of seasonal decorations the committee has provided for the occasion. The Bollards are general chairmen of the party with  Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Patten, assisting chairmen, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cote are co-chairmen of tickets and other committee aides include Mr. and Mrs. George Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds Lussier and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dupuis.

25 Years Ago: 1998

The Children’s Museum of Maine, 142 Free Street in Portland will offer a program, “Get Spaced Out,” from 10 am to 9 pm. Kids will make space clothing to wear, ride in the shuttle, see a star show, hold a press conference and talk with crew members from space.
