People can join First Universalist Church of West Paris at 9 a.m. Sundays at 208 Main St., when members explore a wide variety of topics led by a variety of speakers.
Refreshments will follow services. Music will be provided by guitarist Davy Sturtevant.
Jan. 7, “Welcoming the New Year.” The worship service committee is leading this service of readings and music looking forward to the year ahead.
Jan. 14, “Resolve to Be Human,” led by Maryli Tiemann. It will be two weeks into the new year and perhaps a time to consider the fact or folly of resolutions. Tiemann will return to share some reflections about the challenges of change and the surprising benefits of community and customs. Time for mutual reverberations will be given, according to a news release from the church.
Jan. 21, “Six Principles of Nonviolence,” led by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. derived his theory of nonviolence from a fusion of Christianity and Mahatma Gandhi’s movement of nonviolent resistance. At this service King’s Six Principles of Nonviolence and the success of the Civil Rights Movement under King’s leadership will be discussed.
Jan. 28, “Stumbling Blocks,” led by the Rev. Scott Campbell. Based on I Corinthians 8:1-13, Campbell will look at the question of one to live responsibly towards others. This is from the sermon: “People of faith are not called to know everything, but they are called to love everyone. It is out of that context that we decide what we will choose for ourselves and how that choice will show our love to others.”
