WEST PARIS — A good way to welcome the new year is to join with others in community. Please join us on Sundays at 9 a.m., when we explore a wide variety of topics led by a variety of speakers. Refreshments following the service. All are welcome. Music will be provided by guitarist Davy Sturtevant.
January 7, Welcoming the New Year. The worship service committee is leading this service, of readings and music looking forward to the year ahead.
January 14, Resolve to Be Human, led by Maryli Tiemann. It will be two weeks into the New Year and perhaps a time to consider the fact or folly of Resolutions. Maryli will be returning to share some reflections about the challenges of change and the surprising benefits of community and customs. We’ll have some time for mutual Reverberations, as well.
January 21, Six Principles of Nonviolence, led by The Rev. Fayre Stephenson. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. derived his theory of nonviolence from a fusion of Christianity and Mahatma Gandhi’s movement of nonviolent resistance. At this service, we will take a look at King’s Six Principles of Nonviolence and the astounding success of the Civil Rights Movement under King’s leadership.
January 28, Stumbling Blocks, led by The Rev. Scott Campbell. Based on I Corinthians 8:1-13, Rev. Campbell will look at the question of us to live responsibly towards others; from the sermon: People of faith are not called to know everything, but they are called to love everyone. It is out of that context that we decide what we will choose for ourselves and how that choice will show our love to others.
