Robert A. Cushman Sr.

RUMFORD – Robert A. Cushman Sr, 74, of Rumford, lost his battle with liver disease on December 31, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 16, 1949, in Farmington, a son of Donald and Doris (Blodgett) Cushman. He attended schools in Dixfield. Robert worked at the Rumford Paper Mill for almost 25 years in the Hardwood Bleachery and, later on, the Storeroom.

He loved hunting and fishing, especially the many moose hunts he was able to be part of. Once his wife retired they spent many days fishing on Mooselookmeguntic Lake, hunting and riding their 4-wheeler. He spent summers at camp where playing horseshoes was always a passion, and in the winter, it was snowmobiling and spending numerous hours grooming trails for local clubs. Sunday dinners with the family were always a favorite, as he loved his family endlessly. He spent many years on Rumford bowling teams and he and Jennie taking trips with special friends Donna and Ed, which always led to many laughs and adventures. In the past few years, he grew to love the casino. His most desired passion was definitely his family and watching his great-grandchildren play. Robert was a true family man. He was a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jennie; their three children, Robert Cushman, Jr. and wife, Angie of Peru, Michelle Sanborn and wife, Lisa of Rumford and Tracey Cummings and husband, Aaron of Rumford; eight grandchildren, Samantha Cummings, Katelyn Hodgkins and husband Jared, Stephanie Dodge and husband Casey, Sarah Bourret and fiance Zack, Chris Bourret and fiance Abby, Ryan Bourret and wife Karen, Lauren Bradley and husband James, John Lyle Calden and wife Ashley; 12 great-grandchildren, Ryker, Eli, Jack, and Mason Hodgkins, Lawson Dodge, Maddie and Jackson Bourret, Lydia and Madison Bradley, Carter, Mason, and Stella Calden; two siblings, Greg Cushman and wife Brenda of Mexico and Barry Cushman and wife Sylvia of Solon.
