ROCKPORT — Maine Media Workshops + College plans to host a free weekly Alumni Lecture Series from Oct. 7 through Dec. 14, featuring conversations on a wide array of topics in photo, film, book arts and writing.
The series kicks off from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, with a lecture by book artist Daniel Kelm, hosted by Charles Altschul. “Material, Form and Movement” will feature shared highlights from more than 43 years of research into unique book structures that facilitate the integration of photo, image, text and binding achieved through an awareness of material, form and movement.
Kelm is known for his innovative structures as well as his traditional work. His expression as an artist emerges from the integration of work in science and the arts. Alchemy is a common theme in his book work. Before he began his career in the book arts he received formal training in chemistry and taught at the University of Minnesota. He is known for his extensive knowledge of materials.
