Norway’s Heywood Club plans to light its Christmas tree Dec. 4. Donations from the “Lights of Love” tree will benefit the building fund.
NORWAY — Members of the Heywood Club plan again to set up a Christmas tree at the club house on the front lawn, located at the four corners of the Crockett Ridge Road, to raise money for its building fund to help with maintenance.
The tree lighting will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.
This year money raised by donations to the Lights of Love Tree will go into the building fund because a new roof will be needed at some point.
The club was started as a literary club in 1903 by a group of neighborhood women who wanted to get together and discuss books and share magazines.
Members have raised money to help families in times of need, feed those who did not have enough food, provided support for those grieving and lived by its motto “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” for years. It has a small scholarship fund, a general fund and a new building fund.
Contributions can be made by purchasing a light for the tree in memory of or in honor of someone. Donations are $5 for each light, and a list will be posted at the club.
