TURNER – Calling himself “a strong voice in Augusta for working Mainers and rural Maine,” two-term state Sen. Jeff Timberlake, the leader of the Senate Republicans, plans to run for reelection.

“As a farmer and business owner, I deal every single day with the same issues so many Mainers are dealing with — workforce shortages, the rapidly rising cost of doing business, the burdens on employers, and more,” he said in a news release. “I’m running for reelection so I can keep using my practical, real experience with these issues to help get things on the right path for Mainers.”

Timberlake is a co-owner of Ricker Hill Orchards, an eighth-generation family farm. He and his family also own a number of other businesses, including Northland TrueValue.

A resident of Turner, he has served as a firefighter for the town for 37 years and logged 16 years as chairman of the Planning Board. He was vice chairman of the Board of Selectmen for two years. He also served four terms in the state House of Representatives.

A graduate of Leavitt Area High School and Central Maine Community College, Timberlake and his wife, Joline, have been married for more than 40 years. They have one child and two grandchildren. He is a member of the Kora Shrine, Nezinscot Lodge and the Turner Ridge Riders.

Because of redistricting, Timberlake is running for reelection in the newly drawn 17th Senate District, instead of the existing 22nd District.

The new district encompasses the Androscoggin County towns of Greene, Leeds, Lisbon, Livermore, Livermore Falls, Sabattus, Turner and Wales, as well as the Kennebec County towns of Fayette and Litchfield.

He does not have an announced opponent. The election is a year away.
