I was very disturbed to read in the Sun Journal that the Catholic church is requesting donations for its retired or retiring religious members (“Catholic churches to hold collection to benefit retirement fund,” Dec. 11).

The church has proven once again that it is not a charitable Christian organization but simply “big business.” The church, literally, has more money than God and yet refuses to take care of its own without expecting everyone else to foot the bill.

I was raised Catholic, and even at a young age was able to see through the facade. Our parish priest cared about nothing but money.

The church constantly asks for money to fund its “good works” while the priests, bishops, cardinals and most of the popes have lived in opulence. This is unconscionable in my opinion.

Shame on them.
