Multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Stan Davis will perform at the Oasis of Music beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday Dec. 15, at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston.

Stan Davis decided to play the guitar at age twelve, after attending a concert by Pete Seeger. More than fifty years later, his finger-style, slide, and electric lead guitar playing spans the blues, ragtime, jazz, and folk music. Stan also plays bowed psaltery, blues harmonica, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, and trichordo bouzouki.

A life-long storyteller, he writes quirky, heart-felt story-based songs about real peoples’ lives across the human lifespan, in the tradition of Jim Croce, David Bromberg, Harry Chapin, Tracy Chapman, Dave Carter, and Arlo Guthrie. Other influences include Delta, Chicago, and Piedmont blues, and the music of Mississippi John Hurt.

Davis has performed throughout Maine- solo and as the lead guitarist in the duo Hurry Down Sunshine. He has played at One Longfellow Square in Portland, in Maine festivals including Pumpkin fest, the Common Ground Fair, the Alewife Festival, and the Turner and Winthrop gazebo concert series- also at art walks, libraries, benefits, farmers markets, in bars and restaurants, and for programs for homeless adults and in nursing homes.

The Oasis of Music is a weekly music series of performances of roughly thirty minutes, running from September to May. Admission is free, with donations accepted. The musical genres vary greatly, in largely, but not exclusively, acoustic formats. COVID restrictions of optional mask-wearing and social distancing are observed. The concerts are held in the downstairs chapel. For more information, call 207-344-3106.
