To the Editor:
The Bethel Outing Club was host to over 85 skiers from around New England at its 31st running of the Flying Moose Classic Ski Race at the Inland Woods + Trails, Bethel village system, located at the Bethel Inn Resort on Saturday, February 5, 2022. This race consisted of 10 kilometer and 20 kilometer options, as well as a Bill Koch Youth 2.5 kilometer race, in which over twenty local youth skiers participated.
On behalf of the BOC, I sincerely want to thank Eric Boyle-Wight, Andy Bartleet and Kurt Fisher of Inland Woods + Trails, who worked a long night grooming the course after Friday’s bonanza of snow.
None of this would have been possible without the contributions of time, care, attention to detail, and professionalism of the entire volunteer crew: Azaria Alcide, Nancy Babcock, Chris Barstow, Justin Bondesen, Carlie Casey, Katherine and Nate Crooker, Nancy Eaton, Alice Ford, Beth Hodgdon, Jim Lepich, Karen McElroy, Julia Reuter, Sarah Southam, David Walker, and Robin Zinchuk.
Besides individuals, local organizations and businesses contributed to the success of the event, including the Bethel Inn Resort, Amy and David Hanscom and Bethel Rescue, and True North Adventurewear.
I look forward to future renditions of the Flying Moose, knowing that we have strong local support willing to showcase Bethel area Nordic skiing, to the benefit of local residents as well as club skiers from throughout New England.
Heartfelt thanks from the race director!
Jim Reuter
