I was appalled and taken aback to hear that Whoopi Goldberg had been suspended from The View for even two weeks. From what I read, the woman was not saying that the Holocaust never happened, nor was she in favor of what Hitler and the Nazis and Gestapo did.
We, as Americans, have a freedom that is called freedom of speech. The woman has a right to say that she viewed the Holocaust as an example of “man’s inhumanity to man.” That would include all races, not just one. I wonder why ABC disciplined her for freely expressing her view.
My biological father is Jewish. When we finally met, I was able to determine that his family came to America to escape Hitler. My biological father was a teenager when the family came over from Germany.
He told me he, at the time, he did not understand why he would be struck if he spoke before being spoken to. It was because they did not know who was a Nazi that might turn them over to the Gestapo.
Whoopi apologized for any hurt feelings she might have caused. That should have been enough. She stated that she never intended to cause any distress for anyone.
I don’t think it was fair for ABC to discipline her for expressing her point of view.
