Leonel Reyes, left, and George Krook tap a maple tree Tuesday in Sabattus. Ed Jillson of Jillson’s Farm & Sugarhouse said the sap has already begun to run and that he is ready for when the temperature is expected to climb into the 60s on Wednesday. “We need it to freeze at night and then thaw during the day to make the sap run,” said Jillson. Krook said all three of his children grew up helping on the farm during sugaring season. “Now the grandkids come over when I’m boiling to help sample the syrup,” said Krook. Daryn Slover/Sun Journal
