The headline of a Sun Journal story, “Balloon fest finances probed” (March 15), and its accompanying article have brought the Sun Journal to a place that I can’t imagine.
The actual facts of what the Balloon Festival does for the community was totally overlooked in lieu of looking for dirt. Next time, just go to a gravel pit.
I have lived in this community for 58 years. I have enjoyed the festival and have volunteered for the past six years. I have never seen anyone put more time, effort, work and passion into anything the way Mel Hamlyn does.
I believe that the Sun Journal owes not only Hamlyn but also readers an apology for putting such a sour taste in their mouths for something that is so sweet.
The Sun Journal should remember that investigative journalism should include some investigation into facts.
