Those of us who are retired and on fixed incomes face exceptional hardship when prices skyrocket, particularly with gas and food, as is happening now. When income is fixed, it’s difficult to absorb these rising prices.

Retirees are facing prices like we’ve never seen in our lives. I don’t remember it being this bad in the late 1970s.

Rep. Laurel Libby has a novel idea of pausing the state gas tax until the end of the year. The state of Maine has a surplus of over $1.2 billion. It can give some of our money back in the form of suspending the gas tax.

This would help businesses and families who struggle to deal with rampant inflation. Pausing the gas tax would help businesses keep their prices moderate and help families as they make difficult decisions about how to manage their budgets.
