AUBURN — An Edward Little High School student will face “strong disciplinary consequences” after bringing an Airsoft gun to school Thursday, according to a letter from Principal Scott Annear.
School administrators confiscated an Airsoft gun from a student’s backpack during dismissal after learning of the toy gun. The weapon has been turned over to the Auburn Police Department, and the student was released to their family.
Airsoft guns shoot plastic pellets of various sizes and weights.
“We believe that student and staff are entitled to learn and work in a safe school environment,” Annear wrote. “Bringing a toy gun to school is considered prohibited conduct and will be dealt with seriously.”
According to district policies, “possession and/or use of articles commonly used or designed to inflict bodily harm and/or to threaten, intimidate, coerce or harass another person” are prohibited in schools. The policy states that BB guns, pellet guns or “any other kind of gun” are prohibited.
