ROXBURY — Now that sunshine and warmth have finally arrived, don’t expect to get out on Roxbury all-terrain vehicle trails any time soon.

Rain the past week and a half has left them waterlogged.

The trails will remain closed until June 4, said Victor Petersen, Roxbury ATV Riders Club secretary.

That means this weekend’s Lee Hodgkin Memorial Poker Run and the club’s big 50/50 drawing have been postponed until June 11. The mystery ride was canceled.

“The reason is, as you probably know, all the rain we have had since the end of winter, which was about three weeks ago when the snow finally melted around here,” Peterson wrote in an email to club members.

“Several trail workers went out today and reported to (club President Mike Worthley) that the trails are completely saturated with water.”

Worthley, Petersen said, “felt it would be best to keep the trails closed for now.”

One unanticipated benefit of postponing the 50/50 drawing gives the payoff more time to grow. It’s currently at more than $1,000, and there’s still time to buy a ticket, Worthley said.
