MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Bukola Koiki of Lewiston is one of six acclaimed artists who discuss their work, their stories, and the issues that matter to them in a series of episodes of American Craft Podcast, according to a news release from the American Craft Council.
Koiki is a Nigerian American transdisciplinary artist known for material and technical research in her practice. Her episode is due to appear Friday, June 10.
She received a Master of Fine Arts degree in applied craft and design in 2015 from the Pacific Northwest College of Art.
The podcast episodes are an extension of ACC’s “Objects As …” project, for which the council asked six curators to choose six craft artists to create a new artwork. The spring issue of ACC’s American Craft magazine featured photos of the artists’ work, their written descriptions, and their personal stories.
The project is funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Windgate Foundation.
“Objects fashioned by craft artists can do more than appeal to the eye and hand,” the magazine’s editors write. “They can speak to our cultural, political, environmental, and social climates. They can comment on today’s issues and inspire conversations. They can be acts of rebellion.”
The “Objects As …” podcast series began airing April 15, with subsequent episodes appearing through June 24. They are available at craftcouncil.org/programs/object-as or can be downloaded from podcast sites.
