LEWISTON — The city is seeking public input on a new park being planned by the city of Lewiston’s Public Works Department that will span 14.6 acres near Webster Street, according to a presentation release by the city detailing the project’s proposed design by Terrence J. DeWan & Associates Landscape Architects & Planners.

The park will be bordered by Webster Street, Scribner Boulevard/Cote Street and Ashmount Street, to the north, east and south, respectively, with direct entry points to the park being located on the latter two streets, as well as access from Hilltop Avenue to the west via a trail. (See map.)

Wetlands cover 36% of the park and an extensive wetland network and vernal pool are components of the site. They absorb and filter storm water runoff and serve as a habitat for local wildlife.  The wooded areas of the new park include steep slopes and vegetation. A parcel of private land is located in the park with no right-of-way access, according to the city.

“Topography ranges from steep slopes on (the) southwestern portion of the site (near Ashmount Street), leveling off to the wetland in the center of the site, and gentle slopes through picturesque woodlands to the northeast side of the site (near Cote Street),” according to the presentation.

So far, plans for the park include a nature trail, boardwalk, seating and natural play area. Pictures and more maps and visuals are included in the presentation prepared for the city.

The Lewiston Public Works Department is seeking public feedback from the neighborhood and larger Lewiston community.
