AUBURN — A Westbrook man who led police on a chase in Lewiston in March was charged Tuesday with more than a half-dozen crimes in connection with the incident.
An Androscoggin County grand jury indicted Daniel Spooner, 35, on a charge of eluding and officer, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
Spooner also faces misdemeanor charges of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, operating without a license, leaving the scene of an accident involving an attended vehicle, driving to endanger, criminal speed and violation of condition of release.
Police said Spooner led officers on a chase on March 5 that started in Poland and ended at a dead-end on East Avenue in Lewiston near the Montello Heights Reservoir.
A witness said she told police she spotted someone driving erratically as she was returning from Raymond.
She said the car he was driving was swerving and nearly left the roadway and almost hit oncoming vehicles when she called 911 on Route 11 in Poland.
