LIVERMORE FALLS — Jayden Perreault’s seventh-inning single to left field drove home the game-winning run as Spruce Mountain beat Dirigo 6-5 in a Class C South first-round playoff game Tuesday.
With the game tied at 5-5, Garrett Hunt doubled before scoring on Perreault’s single, securing the win and advancing the seventh-seeded Phoenix (12-5) to face second-seeded Sacopee Valley in the regional quarterfinals.
Eli Moffett, Max Labonte, Hunt and Perreault had two hits apiece in the win, while Isaac Parker struck out nine batters in 6 1/3 innings of work on the mound.
Trenton Hutchinson and Drew Collins each notched a pair of hits for 10th-seeded Dirigo (9-8).
LISBON 5, BOOTHBAY/WISCASSET 2: The top-seeded Greyhounds (17-0) were forced to come from behind to beat the No. 17 Seahawks (3-15) in Lisbon.
Boothbay/Wiscasset recorded just one hit, but Peter Cusamano made the most of it by driving in one of the Seahawks’ two runs in the frame. Lisbon scored one run in the fourth and another in the fifth to tie the game, then plated three in the sixth to take command.
Mason Booker, Levi Tibbetts and Nick Ferrence split time on the mound for the Greyhounds, combining for 14 strikeouts.
Riley Turner and Aiden Parker each collected two hits and an RBI for Lisbon. Ethan Brown also drove in a run.
MONMOUTH 10, MADISON 0: Sammy Calder pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings to help the No. 5 Mustangs (13-4) blank No. 12 Madison in a Class C South prelim in Monmouth.
Calder struck out six batters and gave up only two hits. He also scored twice and drove in a run.
Monmouth’s Hayden Fletcher led all hitters with two hits and two runs scored.
One of Madison’s two hits was a double by Thomas Dean.
MT. ABRAM 11, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 1: The No. 2 Roadrunners started slow but ended fast to down the No. 14 Falcons in a Class C South first-round game in Strong.
Mountain Valley scored first with a run in the top of the third, but Mt. Abram scored 10 runs over the next three frames to finish the game in five innings.
Strong pitching by Roadrunners duo Trevor Phelps and Adam Luce kept the Falcons’ offense from gaining ground.
Phelps and Luce both notched a double.
FREEPORT 2, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Gus Wing scored from second base on a Kempton Von Glinsky-Gregroire infield grounder in the bottom of the eighth as the No. 3 Falcons (13-4) outlasted the 14th-seeded Patriots (4-13) in a Class B South first-round tilt in Freeport.
Gray-New Gloucester took the lead on a Ian Libby fielder’s choice in the top of the third, but Freeport answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth.
Anthony Prescott had a pair of hits for the Patriots.
FRYEBURG 2, POLAND 0: Noah Grant pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks as the 10th-seeded Raiders (6-11) knocked out the seventh-seeded Knights (9-8) in Poland in the first round of the Class B South playoffs.
Ethan Lord had a two-run single in the first for Fryeburg and Bryce Richardson hit a double. The Raiders move on to the B South quarterfinals on Thursday.
SOFTBALL
LEAVITT 10, GREELY 4: Nola Boutaugh singled, doubled and tripled, and winning pitcher Abby Albert struck out nine batters in the Hornets’ victory over the Rangers in a Class B South first-round game in Turner.
Fourth-seeded Leavitt (12-5) had two four-run innings and tallied 12 hits to subdue 13th-seeded Greely (5-12).
Sam Deblois and Emily Poland each drove in two runs for the Hornets. Greely’s Maia Wright had three singles.
MONMOUTH 11, CARRABEC 0: Isabella Lyons tripled and Shannah Parsons had three hits and three RBIs as the Mustangs rolled to the C South first-round playoff victory in Monmouth.
Casey Kaplan had three singles and Rileigh Chase drove in a pair of runs for No. 3 Monmouth (14-3), which will host No. 6 Winthrop in the quarterfinals.
Shyanne Holmes doubled to lead 14th-seeded Carrabec (2-14).
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 8, TELSTAR 7: The No. 7 Falcons (8-9) held on to win a back-and-forth Class C South first-round playoff game against the No. 10 Rebels (6-11) in Rumford.
Telstar struck first, with two runs in the top of the first, and last, with its final run in the top of the seventh, but Mountain Valley’s two-run bottom of the sixth to take an 8-6 lead was the difference.
Alison Legere struck out seven in the circle and added a double at the plate for the Falcons, who face No. 2 Madison in the regional quarterfinals. Brooke Brown notched three hits, and Emma Clukey collected two hits for Mountain Valley. Haley Coulombe doubled in a run.
Natasha Mason tallied five strikeouts for the Rebels and hit a double at the plate. Makenzie Eliot led Telstar with three hits, including a double, and Macie Hallett and Katie Evans each produced a pair of hits.
OAK HILL 5, DIRIGO 3: The No. 8 Raiders (8-9) held on to knock out the No. 9 Cougars (7-10) in a Class C South first-round playoff game in Wales.
Dirigo was held scoreless until scoring its first run in the fifth inning. Oak Hill answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to its lead 5-1 before Dirigo added two more runs in the sixth.
Madison Drew made a standout defensive play for Oak Hill in the fourth, catching a line drive and then finishing up a double play to stop a Dirigo scoring threat. At the plate, Drew drove in one of the Raiders’ runs.
Aubrey McElhaney, Carli Austin and Kelsey Young each collected two hits. Young earned the win in the circle by holding the Cougars to three hits.
POLAND 12, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 2: Olivia Rioux had a single, a triple and four RBIs as the third-seeded Knights (16-1) beat the 14th-seeded Patriots (4-13) in a Class B South first-round playoff game in Poland.
Gabrielle Bolduc and Atlantis Martin each added a double, a single and an RBI for Poland, which meets No. 6 Medomak Valley in the B South quarterfinals. Martin picked up the win in the circle.
Morgan Curtis and Anna Gilbert each had two hits for Gray-NG.
SACOPEE VALLEY 7, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 0: Elyse Guptill allowed three hits, walked one and struck out nine as the fifth-seeded Hawks (12-5) shut out the 12th-seeded Phoenix (5-12) in a Class C South first-round game in Hiram.
Julia Tuthill had three hits and Keira Greene added two singles for Sacopee Valley, which advances to face No. 4 Maranacook in the regional quarterfinals on Thursday.
