The Auburn Public Library plans to welcome two local authors, Andrea Lani and Jennifer Dupree, for a conversation at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the library at 49 Spring St.
They will read from their work, share their experiences navigating the writing world as authors and as editors, and chat about the writing life in general. Both Lani and Dupree are graduates of USM’s Stonecoast MFA program and both are editors at literary magazines, according to a news release from the library.

Lani is the author of “Uphill Both Ways: Hiking Toward Happiness on the Colorado Trail” (Bison Books, 2022), a book about hiking the Colorado Trail with her three children and examining the environmental legacy of Westward Expansion. In the book and in her essays and short fiction, she delights in the wonder of nature and probes the emotional effects of environmental damage and contamination. Her writing has appeared in Orion, Brain, Child Magazine, Spire, Willows Wept Review, Saltfront, Snowy Egret, The Maine Review, Zoomorphic, and About Place Journal, among others. Lani is a graduate of College of the Atlantic and the University of Maine Stonecoast MFA program, a senior editor at Literary Mama, and a Maine Master Naturalist. She lives in Maine with her family.

Dupree is a librarian, assistant editor for The Masters Review, and former independent bookstore owner. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast program. Her novel, “The Miraculous Flight of Owen Leach” debuted in April. Her stories and essays have been published or are forthcoming in Be Wilder: A Word Portland Anthology, Solstice, December, The Masters Review, The Lascaux Review, and other places. She has won a Maine Literary Award for both short non-fiction and short fiction (2022, 2006) as well as the Writer’s Digest fiction contest (2016). Dupree also lives in Maine.
