RUMFORD — Selectman and former Deputy Fire Chief Michael Peter Chase, 69, died Thursday at his home, Town Manager Stacy Carter said.
“The town of Rumford has lost a wonderful man but will not forget him,” he said. “Peter will be extremely missed by all of us here. He was a dedicated professional in all that he has done for the town.”
Chase was deputy chief of the Fire Department until his retirement and worked as a hazardous materials instructor. Besides being a selectman, he served on the Planning Board, the Charter Commission and the Oxford County Budget Committee.
“The fact that he was continually elected or appointed to many positions within the town shows that he was well respected and had Rumford’s interests at heart,” Carter said. “Our sincerest condolences go to the family.”
Chase was a dedicated family man who “loved Rumford and always made thoughtful meaningful decisions to the best of his ability in the greatest interest of the town and its citizens,” the town manager said.
A service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Parish of The Holy Savior, St. Athanasius & St. John Church, 126 Maine Ave., Rumford.
