The 28th annual Moxie Festival starts Friday, July 8, in Lisbon Falls, Maine. At 9:30 a.m., the Spirit of the Wolf Pow Wow opens behind Lisbon High School on Rte. 196, with a full day of Native American activities. From 4-8 p.m., browse through the “Friends-of-the-Library” Book Sale at the MTM Center on School Street in Lisbon Falls. At MidTown Plaza, on Rte. 196 in Lisbon, starting at 4:30 p.m., you’ll see performances by the Alma-Lea Dancers, the Rick Graham Band and the Fire Poi Juggling Troupe. Saturday, July 9 at 7:30 a.m. join over 300 runners from across New England for the 15th annual Moxie Day Amateur 5K Road Race. It starts at the Xtra Mart at the beginning of Rte. 9 just off Rte. 196 across from Lisbon High School in Lisbon Falls. Sunday, July 10, catch the Moxie Festival’s 13th annual Chief Worumbo Androscoggin River Race. It starts at 11 a.m. at Durham Boat Launch on Rte. 136 and ends where the Sabattus and Androscoggin rivers meet near Rte. 196 in Lisbon. Spectators can cheer the racers as they cross the finish line while enjoying Moxie pulled-pork sandwiches and hot dogs with Moxie mustard. This fun, amateur six-mile canoe race has possible Class One rips and easy Class Two rapids. Contestants can register at 9 a.m. race day, but entries made before July 5 are just $20 and include a race t-shirt, lunch and shuttle-service. The 2011 Moxie Festival parade is Saturday, July 9 at 10 a.m. The parade starts on Capital Ave. and ends at the MTM Center on School St. in Lisbon Falls. This year’s parade theme is “Moxie … It’s Maine, In A Bottle!” After the parade, the Moxie Festival takes over downtown Lisbon Falls. Check out the 1 p.m. Moxie Recipe Contest at the Main Street stage, savor tasty BBQ chicken at the Main Street tent from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., see the Moxie cars display from noon til 2 p.m., cheer on Moxie lovers at the Chug-n-Challenge at 2 p.m. at the Main Street stage, hear great bands playing at two stages all afternoon, and sample fun for the kids all day with games and activities at MTM Park and on Main Street. The 2011 Moxie Festival is coming to Lisbon Falls, Maine Friday July 8 through Sunday July 10.  Behind Lisbon High School on Rte. 196, all three days of the Festival, you can visit the Spirit of the Wolf Intertribal Pow-Wow, celebrating Native American culture.  Gates open daily at 2 p.m. on Friday and Sat. and Sun. at 9:30 a.m. Friday night there’s an auction of Native crafts before the Festival fireworks, and, afterward, a blanket trading event. Saturday night enjoy a special concert. The Moxie Festival Recipe Contest and Moxie Festival Chug-n-Challenge are both being held on Saturday, July 9. They are free to all and registration forms are available at the Main Street stage in Lisbon Falls on Saturday, July 9 or in advance by emailing  justin.samsown@gmail.com.

What is the Moxie Festival Recipe Contest? Make your own original Moxie recipe using Moxie soda as an ingredient and bring your creation to the Main Street stage on Main Street between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. The judging will begin at 1 p.m., after the Festival parade, at the Main Street stage.

The Moxie Chug-n-Challenge will take place Saturday, July 9 at 2 p.m. at the Main Street stage. There is a $5 entry fee and there will be a limit of five contestants. The contenders will stand side by side in front of a table with a 12-pack of Moxie. At the sound of a horn each contender will open a can and drink its contents. When each can is emptied, that can will be put in that contestant’s bucket for counting. The most cans consumed in two minutes determines the winner.
