LEWISTON — Bates College scored twice in the first quarter and beat No. 6-nationally ranked rival Bowdoin 2-1 on Saturday at Campus Avenue Field. It was Bates’ first win against Bowdoin in field hockey since 1984.
Maria Femia and Anna Cote scored for the Bobcats (2-0, 1-0 NESCAC), while Paige Cote had an assist.
Andrea DiTeodoro scored with an assist from Georgie Coetzer in the fourth quarter for the Polar Bears (1-1, 0-1).
WOMEN’S SOCCER
BOWDOIN 2, BATES 1: Morgan Smiley and Greta Farkas scored in the first half as the Polar Bears (2-0, 1-0 NESCAC) beat the Bobcats (1-1, 0-1) in Lewiston.
Shannon Gallagher added an assist for Bowdoin. Alex Arndt had two saves.
Charlotte Jones scored in the second half for Bates. Samantha Bunar had three saves.
HUSSON 6, UMF 2: Natalie Aviolla scored four goals and assisted on another to pace the Eagles past the Beavers in Farmington.
Willow Whitten and Charlotte Messer also scored for Husson, while Megan Buddemeyer added two assists. Madison Weigler made three saves for the Eagles.
Monmouth grad Audrey Fletcher notched a goal and an assist for University of Maine at Farmington and Abby Lash scored the other goal. Oak Hill grad Paige Gonya made one save in net for the Beavers while playing in the first half, and Lily Souza stopped seven of 11 shots in the second half.
MEN’S SOCCER
CMCC 6, NECC 1: Romano Bassa scored a pair of goals to lead a balanced Mustangs’ offense in a win over Northern Essex Community College in Auburn.
Abdifatah Yussuf opened the scoring 90 seconds in off an assist by Isidoro Domingues. Oleksandr Bruno made it 2-0 four minutes later. Jonathan Diaz scored the lone goal for the Knights just past the 10-minute mark, but Igor Domingues, Bassa and Abdirahman Daud each scored in the final 10 minutes of the first half to put Central Maine Community College in complete command.
Bassa scored again late in the second half. Arnaud Nyagasaza made three saves for CMCC, while Anhuar Ramos Garcia stopped eight shots for NECC.
BOWDOIN 2, BATES 1: Tyler Huck and Ronaldo Cabral each scored as the Polar Bears (2-0, 1-0 NESCAC) beat the Bobcats (1-1, 0-1) in Lewiston.
Tife Agunloye scored for Bates. Nico Hessel finished with seven saves in the loss.
HUSSON 2, UMF 0: Mario Alvarez and Patricio Reygadas scored second-half goals as the Eagles downed the Beavers in Farmington.
Gerard Arias assisted on Alvarez’s goal in the 58th minute, and Domingo Infante notched the helper on Reygadas’ dagger goal with less than five minutes to play.
University of Maine at Farmington goalie Jonah Sautter, a Lisbon grad, stopped two of the four shots he faced. Alex Rechsteiner made four saves to earn the shutout for Husson.
