Food pantry
OTISFIELD — The Food Pantry will be open from from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 5, at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121. The pantry is open the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, and the second Monday evening of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 583-4780 or 627-4329.
Book sale
NORWAY — Readers of all ages are certain to find some interesting books at the Friends of Norway Library annual book sale July 8 and 9 at the Norway Grange Hall on Whitman Street. Doors will open to the public Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Prices start at $1 for hardcover books and paperbacks at 25 cents. There will be fiction, nonfiction, how-to and children’s books from preschoolers to preteens.
The library welcomes donations of clean, gently used books until noon on July 7. Please no Reader’s Digest books, encyclopedias or textbooks. Donations may be dropped off at the library side entrance during regular library hours. Volunteers to help sort books and work at the sale are needed. Anyone interested in participating must talk with Ann at the library before signing up.
Campfire sing-along
SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will hold a campfire sing-along and toasted marshmallows from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 8, in the pavilion beyond the parking lot. There will be no community supper this month.
Quilt contest
WATERFORD — Elaine Emery, superintendent of the exhibition hall at Waterford World’s Fair has chosen “Windmills” as the theme for the fourth annual quilt square contest. All entries must be received by Emery by Friday, July 8, and will be judged on July 11.
The 2010 quilt square contest was a huge success with 29 entries, which have been assembled into a queen size quilt. Tickets are being sold for $1 each or 6 for $5. Tickets are available from fair directors or from Emery. The quilt will be on display in the exhibit hall during the fair and tickets will be sold then also. You do not need to be present to win; the drawing will be Sunday, July 17, at 4 p.m.
Prize money for this year’s squares will be paid as follows: 1st place $45, 2nd place $40, 3rd place $35, 4th place $30, and 5th place $25. For more information, call Emery at 674-2694 or email Elaine90@megalink.net.
Market, auction
CASCO — The annual Flea Market & Auction Board will take place Saturday, July 9. Rain date is July 16.
Nearly 30 years ago, the Casco Village Church United Church of Christ kicked off what would become a summer tradition in the Lake Region area, the much-anticipated “Always the second Saturday in July” Flea Market & Auction Board. It is the largest fundraiser of the year for the church on Route 121 in Casco Village. With more than 50 vendors, unique and valuable auction board items up for bid, plants and flowers, children’s activities and refreshments from the moment it opens at 8 a.m. to closing at 1:30 p.m., it is by far the area’s biggest and best flea market and auction of the summer.
It takes place on the Village Green, right across from the Casco Village Church United Church of Christ, 941 Meadow Road (Route 121).
Quilt show
BRIDGTON — The Chickadee Quilters of Bridgton will hold their 32nd annual quilt show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10, at the Stevens Brook Elementary School.
There will be 100 quilts on display, a vendor area, a yard sale table featuring quilting and craft items, a Chinese auction table, demonstrations and a small cafe area with light refreshments. 4-H lodge
BRYANT POND — The grand opening of the Lakeside Lodge at the University of Maine 4-H Camp & Learning Center will be held Saturday, July 9. After three years of planning and fundraising, the doors will open at the new four-season facility. Ceremony will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a barbecue and dessert buffet.
For more than 50 years, the Bryant Pond 4-H Camp & Learning Center programs have introduced children and adults to a unique blend of safe outdoor fun, conservation education and practical outdoor skills.
