LIVERMORE — Selectpersons voted Tuesday to approve the purchase of a dump body, snow plow, wing plow and other related equipment to go on the town’s new truck, Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub said Wednesday.
The low bidder was H.P. Fairfield of Skowhegan at $64,675, he said. The company was one of two that matched the specifications the town was looking for, he said. The other company, Tenco, had a price that was about $6,000 higher than Fairfield’s, he said.
That brings the cost for the new truck, dump body and equipment to $122,405, including $50,000 trade-in for Sterling truck. The total is less than the $185,000 voters approved on June 16 at the annual town meeting.
Selectmen voted June 20 to buy a 2012 Volvo truck chassis for $57,730.
In other business Monday, the board voted to appoint James Bryant of Livermore as the new transfer station attendant, Schaub said.
About a dozen applications were received for the position, Schaub said. He and station supervisor Juanita Jordan-Bryant selected interviewees, he said. They chose Bryant, who is Jordan-Bryant’s cousin, to be recommended for the position, Schaub said.
Bryant will be paid a wage of $10.25 an hour.
The board also approved Schaub’s recommendation to appoint Mark Adams of Livermore to the maintenance position. His pay will be $12.25 per hour. The average amount of hours per week is five as needed for projects that need to be done, Schaub said.
In other business, he said he also reported to selectmen that the town’s liability insurance renewal cost for the year from Maine Municipal Association is $16,214, which is an increase of $51 from last year. Schaub budgeted $16,600 for liability insurance this year.
Schaub also said he reported to selectmen that he compared current property tax collections to those of June 30, 2010.
“This year, we had $169,867 of current taxes still outstanding,” he said. “Last year, we had $133,998 outstanding. So, although our budgetary position is as expected, our cash flow is being impacted by slower collections, in addition to funds due us by the state.”
Selectpersons also put off action on the proposed cemetery policy. Schaub said he has to do some tweaking in the policy and will go before the board at 6 p.m. Monday, July 18, at the town office.
