50 Years Ago: 1972
Charles Peter of Portland was elected Man of the Year by the members of the Maine Federation Republican Women. Sunday afternoon at the Silent Women in Waterville. Mr. Peter was honored for his understanding and cooperation during the past four years when his wife, Verda Peters served as president of the federation.
Among the honored guests at the dinner were newly elected Maine Senate and Maine Representatives including Albert Sproul, mayor of Augusta, Cecil McNally of Ellsworth, Charlotte White of Guilford, and Albert Hoffses of Rockland. Also at the head table were husbands of the federation for their patience and cooperation.
Receiving recognition were Mrs. Joyce Lewis, Peter T. Snowe, Philip Dunn and Richard Olene, newly elected members of the Maine Legislature. Arrangements for the dinner were made by Mrs. Hazel of Randolph, assisted by Joanna Sennett and Diane Peterson of Portland.

Rock Maple Racing picked Rose-beck Farm in Paris as one of 11 sites In New England to host a professional snocross on the circuit in February. Promoters and racers gathered at the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce office are Duane Nichols, Kevin Nichols, Jerry Gingras, Heather White, Ben White, Jerry Major, Nancy Record, Sid Record and John Williams, executive of the chamber.
