100 Years Ago: 1922
Harry Frazee, owner of the Red Sox, and William Carrigan, who managed the Sox to world championships in 1915 and 1916, talked baseball over the breakfast table today, it became known tonight. Following the conference Carrigan left for his home in Lewiston. Carrigan has withdrawn from his theatrical enterprises in northern New England and intimated today that if he did return to the national pastime, it would be with Boston and not with New York as had been rumored.
Hugh Duffy, present manager of the Red Sox, will be retained for the 1923 season in some capacity, if not as manager, Frazee declared positively today.
50 Years Ago: 1972
“HO, HO, HO, MERRY CHRISTMAS” — was the cry of the jolly man in the red and white suit who rode through town today on a sleigh led by two tiny reindeer rang through the Twin Cities today at the annual Santa Claus Parade lighted up faces of children with the beginning of the holiday season and that jolly “Merry Christmas.”
25 Years Ago: 1997
(from a Sun journal photo) Bentley Rathbun of the Ewe Turn Farm on North River Road, Auburn, takes a head count of his sheep during feeding time. The farmer, who has been having trouble with coyotes, was missing one of his sheep.
