100 Years Ago: 1922
Many Lewiston businessmen are behind a plan to close side street hills at certain hours of the day to give the kids a chance to coast without the danger of being run into. It is impossible as long as a “Kid is a Kid” to keep him from coasting on a fast ice-covered hill.
50 Years Ago: 1972
The Christmas concert will be presented tonight at the E.L. Gym, starting at 7:30 pm and continuing until 9 pm. The admission is free. This is the second annual festival of Christmas music. This year the concert is organized under the supervision of Sandra Simpson, Music Coordinator, and Chloe Libby, Music Director in the elementary schools. The concert includes choruses from the elementary schools and the Choral Eddies from E.L. The bands are from Central, Webster, Walton and Edward Little. The program will include instrumental, religious, and popular Christmas music.
25 Years Ago: 1997
Black Mountain of Maine announces the grand opening of its new Tubing Park on Saturday Dec. 20, from 6-9 p.m. Black Mountain of Maine opens for the season at 9 a.m. Sunday for skiing, boarding, cross country, skiing and tubing. Snowmaking has been progressing all week. A new cable has been installed and a new grooming machine will make snow conditions the best that they can be. The River Valley Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to do the official ribbon cutting of the Tubing Park grand opening. Santa Claus will appear at the opening.
